Niagara Falls New York Hotels - City Information

The city of Niagara Falls, New York was put on the map by tourism. Plain and simple, the city of about 55,000 grew up around the 2nd largest waterfall in the world. The majesty of Niagara Falls State Park will stun you. From high above you can view the Falls from the Niagara Falls State Park Observation Tower in Prospect Point Park, boarding spot for the Maid of the Mist boat ride where you can experience cascading walls of water. Visit the Cave of the Winds to get really close to Bridal Veil Falls – they will provide you with a rain poncho and sandals! Portions of the 14.5 miles of Trails along the Niagara River Gorge can be very exciting, with views of the Whirlpool Rapids and sedimentary rock walls. Part of the trail can be experienced by car while other sections require climbing steeps stairs and large rocks. You may also walk to Canada across the Rainbow Bridge to see the other side of the Falls. Inspiring vistas are also found at Skylon Tower on the Canada side.

Weekends are filled with local events during the milder months – winters can get very cold! During the summer, golf enthusiasts take advantage of the outstanding scenery and play one of the eight local courses. Another enjoyable pastime is following the Niagara Wine Trail, stopping in at the several local Wineries. Free concerts are held at the Mainstage Theater at Artpark in nearby Lewiston. Families also enjoy the hiking trails and fishing docks at this park.

Keep the kids entertained at the Aquarium of Niagara, billed as Niagara’s “other water wonder” to see sharks, sea lions and penguins or take a drive to the Buffalo Zoo. Another enjoyable attraction includes a tour of the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum to see lovely hand carved wooden carrousel animals. During the summer you will find weekly Fireworks shows over the Falls and winter brings the annual Festival of Lights.
